is very, very happy. thursday night it was the knicks taking on the visiting los angeles lakers. the interesting point was, the laker coach coming back, the coach against the team that he walked away from in march. the lakers are struggling and did last night. the mvp candidate, carmelo anthony, sprained his knee. kobe bryant is beyond frustrated with his team. >> every game for us has a lot of meaning to it at this point. i don't think -- maybe if we were rolling, playing well it probably has added significance. but at this point, you know, i wish we had the washington generals on our schedule. >> it's not going to be washington generals but rather the washington wizards. pick up tickets. they are there in town. you can watch them. >> can we talk about this huge signing in baseball, josh hamilton, $25 million a year? >> yeah. i think you're worth what someone is willing to pay. josh has been a tremendous power hitter for a number of years. five years, $125 million. he's headed to a division rival. that makes it even more interesting. the dodgers have been doing a lot of the fre

the lakers and so many people were so inspired by jeremy lin, the first taiwanese american to make it to the pros. his story coming from harvard, sleeping on his brother's couch, went from an unknown to the world's biggest superstar. >> what happened to him? where is he now? >> he's in houston. he signed a three-year, $25 million deal that the knicks did not want to match. so far against the knicks he's 2-0. >> okay, very good. number one. >> yeah, number one. the buildup to this. let me give a little back story. the replacement referees had been getting so maligned throughout the preseason and beginning of the season and everyone was just waiting for that one moment that would really get the referees and the league back to the table and get the negotiations going. monday night football, packers/seahawks. russell wilson throws the hail mary to the end zone. it's now called the fail mary but you see the rest. one calls a touchdown, the other calls a touchback. it goes into the call heard round the world and two days later the referees and the league got it settled. >> maggie, great.

of the google maps app this morning launched it to number one immediate lakers few hours after its release. apple previously, of course, replaced google-powered maps app with its own version, you know the criticism that ensued there. on the cnbc news line now is the editor-in-chief of mashable. have you experienced the new app? >> yes, yeah. i have downloaded it i downloaded t pretty much [ inaudible ] not the same google maps you remember, cleaner, but has all the good features, especially transit, something everyone missed. >> explain that point, if you would. >> so when apple came out with its own maps they basically came out with a product that had less functionality and less accurate than the product deet fault, which was google maps and one of the things they left out [ inaudible ]. important to remember thank google maps is not the default on ios 6 or iphone 5, have to download it have to choose to use it. >> you look at the stock's reaction and imply that this is a big deal for google, the stock up more than 1% while apple is lower. doesn't this underscore the i shall through am ma
